Supreme infuses its 2023 summer season T-shirt collection, with a captivating blend of eclectic designs and graphic enchantment.
One notable T-shirt showcases the prominent display of the title track, “Drop A Gem On ‘Em,” by Mobb Deep on its back. The front of the shirt features a tribal-style dragon that was also found on the DJ vinyl of “Drop A Gem On ‘Em” and later adorned the cover of 2006’s “Life of the Infamous: The Best of Mobb Deep.” This collaboration marks another instance where Supreme has partnered with Mobb Deep, following their previous collaboration in 2011, which featured a photograph of the late Prodigy on one of the label’s T-shirts. Prodigy also made appearances on a T-shirt from the SS18 collection and the SS21 collection.
Alongside this striking graphic, the collection features another significant design known as the “Motion Logo.” Inspired by the iconic title sequence of the 1990 crime film “Goodfellas,” the “Motion Logo” made its debut in 1998 across various Supreme merchandise such as T-shirts, skateboards, lighters, and stickers. Over the years, it has adorned different Supreme silhouettes, including hoodies, long sleeve tees, and even a collaboration with Vans in FW16. The logo most recently appeared on short-sleeved T-shirts in the SS20 collection and also in the SS23 collection.
Adding to the collection’s diversity, Supreme incorporates a graphic that repurposes the cover of the eponymous debut album by London-based alternative rock band Suede, released in 1993. The album cover originally depicted two individuals kissing, but photographer Tee Corinne requested that Suede crop the photo to protect the subjects’ identities. Now, after three decades, Supreme offers the photo its moment in the spotlight.
Additionally, the Supreme Summer 2023 Tees collection includes a tee featuring the brand’s iconic crown logo, a collage tee showcasing a medley of elements from cigarettes to half-eaten bananas, and a tee with a hand-drawn three-silhouette graphic, exuding a distinctive artistic touch.
