In the coming weeks, TikTok, will roll out a feature where all accounts belonging to a user under the age of 18 will be set to a daily limit of screen time in the app of 60 minutes – if the 60 minutes are reached, the user will then have to enter a password to continue use. TikTok encourages teens to set a daily screen time limit if they choose to turn off the default setting of 60 minutes and spend more than 100 minutes on TikTok in a day. At the same time, TikTok will in the future send a weekly message with an overview of users’ weekly screen time.

“Teenagers may need extra support when they start to be present online, and at TikTok we are constantly developing our platform with their needs in mind. This special initiative helps both Denmark’s youth and their parents to reflect on the time they use on the platform, and gives them the tools to make the decisions that feel right for them,”

– Liv Sandberg, TikTok’s Nordic Director
