Carl Hickey is a young and talented up-and-coming painter based out of Dublin, Ireland. He holds a BA in Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design.
Surveillance runs through my work, using my phone as a tool to document the familiar and unfamiliar situations that occur throughout my daily routines. My work, that is then translated to paintings sets in stone events from friends and strangers. Spending time to make work on these unknown figures I can’t help but feel a connection towards them. Alienation and loneliness are reoccurring themes that surround my work, although it is not intended, it seems the city instinctively provides these feelings for us

Carl was super cool when we approached him about being the first one to try out this new series called: “10 Quick Ones”, where we ask talented creatives, u guessed it.. 10 questions. It’s basically a yes or no type interview, with two contrasting questions versus each other, which forces the protagonist to take sides and express their opinion. So without further ado, here are Carl Hickey’s, 10 questions:
Get up early or get up late?
Definitely a get up early person, well I try to, getting up late definitely makes a bad start to the day.
City or Country Side?
City all day, country side be a little bit to boring for my liking, I like things constantly going and the country side is a bit slow it seems, although the countryside does have a better pint of Guinness.
Street Art or Renaissance?
Renaissance definitely, although I do like some street art it can sometimes come off corny or something, but I still can’t wrap my head around some of the painters from the renaissance
Kim Kardashian or Natalie Portman?
Kim Kardashian should be deleted from the universe so Natalie Portman all day, sure what even is Kim famous for again?
Be able to read minds or Fly?
Fly, imagine being able to read minds, that would be well to over whelming, some people be talking to much out loud imagine what goes on in there head
Coffee or Tea?
Tea, coffee gets a bit much for me, I rarely drink it but when I do I get jittery and stuff cause I’m hyper enough already, I could drink tea for days!
Law Abiding Citizen or Crime Rider?
I’m somewhere in the middle but definitely, I try keep the balance between everything as all things should be.
Hiphop or House Music?
Hip-hop without a doubt. There is no comparison there
Conor McGregor or Khabib Nurmagomedov?
Neither Conor McGregor is an idiot and Khabib does be doing some pretty shady stuff on the side, let’s just go with Paddy the Baddy, he’s doing everything right
A good movie or a good tv-series
I’m going to go with a good tv -series just because “The Wire” is the best piece of media I have ever watched and better than any film I can’t think off.
