At the remarkable age of 87, David Hockney is gearing up for what promises to be one of the most ambitious exhibitions of his storied career. Set to take over the entirety of the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the upcoming show, titled David Hockney, 25, will offer a sweeping celebration of the artist’s legacy, blending iconic works from his past with recent creations that showcase his enduring innovation. Opening on April 9 and running through August 31, this expansive exhibition is poised to captivate art lovers and reaffirm Hockney’s status as a titan of contemporary art.

Curated in collaboration with Suzanne Pagé, Sir Norman Rosenthal, and François Michaud, the exhibition zeroes in on Hockney’s 21st-century output, spotlighting his embrace of modern technology and bold experimentation. Among the highlights are his digital portraits, crafted on an iPad, which reveal his mastery of new mediums, alongside the “220 for 2020” series, a collection that will be presented in printed and framed form for the first time. These works underscore Hockney’s ability to evolve while staying true to his distinctive vision.

Beyond his paintings, the show delves into Hockney’s lesser-known but equally impactful scenographic work. Visitors will experience an immersive installation inspired by his opera set designs, a creative pursuit he’s explored since the 1970s. This tribute to his theatrical flair adds a dynamic layer to the exhibition, inviting audiences into the breadth of his artistic universe. Spanning the full scope of the Fondation Louis Vuitton, David Hockney, 25 promises to be a monumental showcase of an artist who, even in his late 80s, continues to push boundaries and inspire awe.
