David Renne is The New Creative Director of MOSCHINO

Davide Renne, a talented designer hailing from Tuscany, is set to assume the role of Creative Director for Moschino, beginning in November 2023.

After Jeremy Scott’s departure in 2023, following a decade of steering the creative direction of the Italian fashion house, the leadership position was left vacant. For the SS24 collection, which commemorates the brand’s 40th anniversary at Milan Fashion Week, the in-house team took charge in the absence of a successor. Notably, this temporary leadership was entrusted to four influential figures in the fashion world, all of whom were friends of the house: Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Lucia Liu, and Katie Grand.

Now, Moschino has unveiled the name set to follow Jeremy Scott‘s legacy: Italian designer Davide René. His official tenure commences on November 1, 2023, and he will make his debut with the Autumn-Winter 2024/2025 collection during Milan Fashion Week in February. Renne will oversee the Moschino line’s women’s, men’s, and accessories collections. With over two decades of experience, including heading Gucci’s womenswear department and collaborating with Alessandro Michele and Frida Giannini, Renne brings an extensive and impressive background to this new role, following four years with number 21 founder Alessandro Dell’Acqua.

“Today we welcome Davide to the Moschino family. We have all been impressed by Davide’s extremely sophisticated vision of the power of fashion to create a living dialogue with the world around us and by his deep understanding of the legacy of the House of Moschino and our codes. He is a brilliant designer and a special human being: Franco used to say that bad manners are the only true bad taste, and in meeting Davide, I have been struck, not only by his obvious talent, but also by his kindness, his sensitivity. We are sure he will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Moschino, a global house with an Italian heart and a truly unique DNA in the luxury industry.”

    – Massimo Ferretti, CEO of Moschino’s parent company Aeffe

“Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio: la sala giochi, the playroom,” (…) “This resonates deeply with me: what fashion, especially Italian fashion, and the House of Moschino above all, can achieve with its enormous power, must be achieved with a sense of playfulness, of joy. I am well aware of the honour that Mr Ferretti, a gentleman who has been almost paternal in his ability to listen and establish a dialogue during our meetings, has bestowed on me by taking over the House founded by one of the greatest minds in fashion. So, thank you, Mr Ferretti, for giving me the keys to your playroom. I can’t wait to get started, we will have fun together”.

    – Davide Renne

Davide Renne’s arrival coincides with a transformative period where numerous creative directors are relinquishing their roles, ushering in a wave of fresh talent. Notably, after a remarkable 26-year tenure at Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton recently bid farewell, presenting her ultimate collection during Paris Fashion Week. The baton will be passed to Seán McGirr, a distinguished graduate of Central Saint Martins. Meanwhile, Chemena Kamali is set to make her mark at Chloé, and Walter Chiapponi has departed from Tod’s. As a new chapter unfolds for Gucci under the guidance of Sabato de Sarno, the fashion landscape witnesses these significant shifts.
