Stone Island Introduces Friendly Pressure: Studio One, an Immersive Sonic Adventure for Milan Design Week

Stone Island, a brand known for its innovative approach to design and materials, has made its inaugural appearance at the Semana del Diseño de Milán (Milan Design Week) by expanding its foray into the realm of music with the launch of Friendly Pressure: Studio One. This initiative is not merely a side project but a bold exploration of sound as a physical, almost material entity—an acoustic exploration space that merges the disciplines of design, technology, and sound into a cohesive and experiential installation. Visitors can immerse themselves in this unique fusion until April 13, experiencing how Stone Island translates its experimental ethos into a multisensory environment.

The project is a collaborative effort with Friendly Pressure, a London-based studio specializing in sound systems, which aligns with Stone Island’s LAB & LIFE philosophy—a commitment to pushing boundaries through material research and lived experience. At the heart of Studio One lies a bespoke high-fidelity modular audio system, engineered specifically for this occasion. This system features speakers designed by Bosco Taylor, paired with custom furniture created in collaboration with Fables Collective and ANDA_BA. Every detail, including the finishes, has been carefully curated to optimize the acoustics, ensuring that the sound quality is as much a part of the design as the physical elements surrounding it.

However, Studio One transcends its technical marvels to become a dynamic meeting point. During the day, the space will host a series of talks featuring producers, sound system designers, and musicians, fostering discussions that bridge the technical and creative aspects of sound and design. By night, the installation transforms into a performance venue, showcasing live sets from artists such as Retromigration, NINAFTERDARK, and Lobo Sound. These events highlight the installation’s dual role as both a showcase of cutting-edge technology and a platform for cultural exchange, reinforcing Stone Island’s reputation as a brand that seamlessly integrates innovation with community and creativity.
