Under the visionary helm of Creative Director Nigo, KENZO embarks on a sartorial odyssey to the cosmos with its captivating Pre-Fall 2024 campaign. Inspired by the boundless realms of science fiction, Nigo envisions a wardrobe fit for an inhabitant of a distant galaxy, where the boundaries between the earthly and the extraterrestrial blur.
The campaign’s visual narrative is masterfully crafted by Canary Islands-born photographer Lengua, who paints a surreal landscape where the rugged coastline meets the vast expanse of the night sky. Amidst this otherworldly panorama, a diverse ensemble of models showcases Nigo’s visionary designs, each piece a testament to the harmonious fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics.
Nigo’s sartorial creations for KENZO embody the essence of a galactic traveler, seamlessly blending traditional elements with futuristic concepts. Pleated soleil dresses, reminiscent of ancient civilizations, stand in stark contrast to cargo flight pants and metallic sequin bodysuits, hinting at a future where exploration and innovation reign supreme.
The collection’s centerpiece, the KENZO Constellation print, reimagines the brand’s iconic motifs as celestial patterns, as if viewed from the perspective of an Earthling gazing upon the stars. This subtle yet powerful detail reinforces the theme of cultural exchange and the boundless possibilities that lie beyond our earthly confines.
As a homage to the influential Japanese electronic band YMO, the campaign features a striking motif of five briefcase-carrying men, a nod to the band’s iconic merchandise. This subtle tribute serves as a bridge between the Pre-Fall collection and the main line, further emphasizing the interconnectedness of cultures and the power of creative expression.
