A.P.C. Names Ludivine Poiblanc as Artistic Director

Ludivine Poiblanc joins the Parisian label as artistic director, bringing a stylist’s eye to one of fashion’s most enduring minimalist wardrobes

A.P.C. has never been a brand that needed to shout. Its power has always lived in restraint: the perfect raw denim, the plain sweater that somehow says more than a logo, the kind of French wardrobe that looks effortless because every detail has already been considered.

Now, the Parisian label is entering a new chapter. Ludivine Poiblanc has been appointed artistic director of A.P.C., taking on the task of shaping the brand’s image and visual universe while stepping into one of contemporary fashion’s most quietly influential houses.

Poiblanc arrives with the kind of background that makes sense for A.P.C. She is not coming in as a spectacle designer, but as a stylist and creative director — someone trained in the precision of image, proportion, mood, and attitude. Her work has moved between editorial and brand worlds, including projects with WSJ Magazine, Zara, Lanvin, and Calvin Klein.

That feels important. A.P.C. is not a house built around dramatic seasonal reinvention. Since Jean Touitou founded the brand in 1987, its language has been about archetypes: denim, coats, shirts, knits, bags, and the strange discipline of making ordinary clothes feel exact. Its minimalism has always carried a little attitude — not loud rebellion, but a kind of clean refusal.

Poiblanc’s appointment also comes at a moment of transition. Judith Touitou, Jean Touitou’s wife and creative partner, stepped down from the brand’s artistic direction in 2024 after nearly three decades. The shift follows wider structural changes at A.P.C., including the 2023 sale of a majority stake to L Catterton, the private equity firm backed by LVMH.

So the question is not whether A.P.C. will suddenly become something else. The more interesting question is how Poiblanc will sharpen what is already there. Her task is less about reinventing the brand than reawakening its tension: simplicity with bite, normality with taste, French restraint with just enough dissidence underneath.

Poiblanc, who is based between Paris and New York, is expected to present her first collection for the house at the Milan showroom on May 20, followed by a presentation at A.P.C.’s Rue Madame headquarters in Paris on June 15.

For a label so attached to the idea of timelessness, change has to be handled carefully. But that may be exactly why this appointment works. Poiblanc’s world is not about noise. It is about the exact angle of a sleeve, the mood of a photograph, the intelligence of a wardrobe that does not beg to be noticed.

A.P.C.’s next chapter may not be loud. It probably shouldn’t be.
