This text introduces a major new milestone in the career of Alex Proba, marking the opening of his most ambitious installation in Egypt to date. Situated beside the Pyramids of Giza, the work brings together a constellation of sculptures crafted from marble, onyx, travertine, and quartzite, translating Proba’s characteristic fluid visual language into monumental, geological form.
The installation is conceived as an immersive spatial journey. One key element is a circular stone portal positioned to frame the pyramids, creating a visual dialogue between ancient architecture and contemporary sculpture. Nearby, a winged piece carved in deep green tones references the Eye of Horus, anchoring the work in Egyptian mythological symbolism.
A third grouping, a set of tall, pink vertical sculptures rising from the desert surface — evokes objects emerging from the earth itself. Each element draws from Egyptian cosmology, exploring concepts such as the passage of time, the cyclical rhythms of existence, and the idea of protection as a spiritual and physical force.
