Saint Laurent to Showcase Four Unseen Charlotte Perriand Designs in Milan

Saint Laurent is set to make waves at the Salone del Mobile by unveiling a rare collection of four furniture pieces designed by the legendary Charlotte Perriand, a visionary whose works were cherished and collected by Yves Saint Laurent himself. This marks a significant moment as these pieces, conceived between 1943 and 1967, have never been produced—until now. Under the creative direction of Anthony Vaccarello, the brand is breathing life into designs that previously existed only as sketches or prototypes, offering a glimpse into Perriand’s groundbreaking approach to modern design.

The standout pieces include a monumental sofa, originally envisioned in 1967 for the Japanese ambassador’s residence in Paris, exuding grandeur and sophistication. Equally striking is an experimental table composed of ten contrasting layers of wood, a concept abandoned in its time due to the intricate assembly challenges it posed. Joining these are the Rio de Janeiro modular bookshelf, crafted from rich Brazilian rosewood with woven rattan doors, and the Le Fauteuil Visiteur Indochine armchair, a piece inspired by Vietnamese aesthetics that blends cultural influences with timeless elegance. These works showcase Perriand’s mastery of form, material, and innovation.

This exclusive unveiling will take place during Milan Design Week, from April 8 to 13, giving design enthusiasts a rare opportunity to experience Perriand’s unrealized visions in person. For those captivated by the collection, limited editions of the pieces may be produced upon request, adding an element of bespoke luxury to the offering. Beyond the furniture, Saint Laurent will enrich the exhibition with photographs of Perriand, presented in a dedicated volume celebrating her enduring legacy. This fusion of fashion, furniture, and heritage underscores Saint Laurent’s commitment to honoring artistic pioneers while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design.
