Bamouin Sinzé is The Next Talented Artist to Watch From the Ivory Coast

Axel Angenor Bamouin Sinzé, whose artist name is Bamouin Sinzé, was born in 1995 in Aboisso, in the South Comoé region of Côte d’Ivoire. In 2014, he moved to Abidjan to begin his studies in visual arts at INSAAC, during which he refined his artistic and literary universe. Bamouin Sinzé develops a plastic technique capable of immersing us in the intimacy of his nocturnal wanderings, the fragile balance between mirages and realities. Since his childhood, Bamouin Sinzé has been transported to an inner world, apart, a world of chimeras in which he can meditate. The plastic gesture allows him to give life to the figures that inhabit him, to give shape to the shadows. If this universe is not tangible, it is not non-existent. For Bamouin Sinzé, each of us has an intimate and own knowledge of it, but only some have the curiosity or the temerity to assume and appropriate it..

With the support of some teachers and thanks to models such as the Ivorian artists Ernest Dükü, Pascal Konan, Aboudia or Yéanzi, Bamouin Sinzé has been experimenting since 2016 with a technique of painting by means of smoke, a technique whose precariousness makes her, according to him, the most able to access the field of dreams, the intangible, the hidden face of things.

Under his inverted canvas, most of the time at night, Bamouin Sinzé, a candle in hand, draws in the air lines, circles, curves, in the manner of an invisible writing. The smoke transcribes these gestures on the canvas by gray and vaporous marks, fragile. Evanescence then appears to be at the center of his work. The artist seeks to represent a fragment of time immortalized, to grasp the impalpable, to represent what inexorably ends up disappearing.
