Karl Lagerfeld and G.H. Bass Slice Open the Classic Weejuns Loafer for 2026

Intersecting 150 years of Maine heritage shoemaking with Parisian high-camp luxury, the joint capsule slots silver Karl coins straight into the prep staple’s iconic slot.

Few footwear silhouettes carry the subcultural weight of the G.H. Bass Weejuns. Invented in 1936, the world’s original penny loafer morphed from Ivy League prep uniform to the footwear of choice for 1950s mods, 70s rudeboys, 90s hip-hop heads, and modern street style purists. Now, celebrating G.H. Bass’s 150th anniversary alongside 90 years of the Weejuns, the Maine bootmaker is tapping the dark, tailored universe of Karl Lagerfeld to re-engineer the icon.

The joint capsule strips away traditional footwear boundaries, blending G.H. Bass’s hand-stitched mocc-toe construction with Karl’s signature high-contrast monochrome aesthetic.

“It’s prep iconography crashed into Parisian high-fashion rebellion—swapping out vintage copper pennies for silver-embossed Karl coins.”

Spanning seven sharp iterations—from polished all-black calfskin to monochrome split panels and heavy-grommeted boat shoes—the highlight of the collection lives in the details. The iconic strap slot is populated with custom silver Karl-embossed coins, while subtle K/Autograph stamping and raised heel branding bring an undeniable edge to the centuries-old silhouette.
