Kingston Poplar is a British painter, currently living and working in the Virgin Islands. His paintings depict scenes of contemporary life through a surreal, dream like perspective. Narrative based compositions are built from a large library of references, from social media, pop culture, geographical location, social class, imagination, personal experience and art history. Once on the picture plane the subjects and motifs, originally unrelated, now exist and interact in the same world, forming new narratives which reveal themselves over time. in a world of mass media and short lived dopamine hits, the end result seeks to reflects the contemporary mind and the large and confusing amount of information in which it erratically absorbs.
