LOEWE Craft Prize 2025 Crowns Kunimasa Aoki for Delicate Terracotta Vision

The LOEWE Craft Prize 2025 has awarded its top honor to Japanese artist Kunimasa Aoki for his sculpture Realm of Living Things 19—a mesmerizing terracotta piece crafted from ultra-thin clay coils compressed to a paper-like thickness. This masterful work, which delicately navigates the tension between solidity and fragility, earned Aoki the €50,000 grand prize.

Two artists received special mentions from the jury: Indian artist Sumakshi Singh, for Monument, a floating columnmeticulously embroidered in copper, and Nigerian designer Nifemi Marcus-Bello for TM Bench with Bowl, a thoughtful fusion of form and function.

All 30 finalist works are currently on display at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, offering a rare glimpse into the cutting edge of contemporary craft. The exhibition runs until June 29, presenting a global spectrum of artistic innovation, material mastery, and cultural storytelling.
