Uber is looking into delivering cannabis. Launched in 2009, the company now offers many services including Uber Eats. In February, Uber announced the acquisition of Drizly, an app specializing in alcohol delivery. Asked by CNBC about his future investments, the Uber boss announced he was already thinking about delivering cannabis:
“When the road is clear for cannabis when federal laws come into play, we’re absolutely going to take a look at it,” he said. “But right now with grocery, with food, with alcohol, et cetera, we see so much opportunity out there, and we’re going to focus on the opportunity at hand.”
– Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber
Currently, no less than sixteen states have authorized cannabis in their regions. However, Uber Eats is awaiting federal authorization to be able to devote itself to this new sector.
