The North Face Purple Label Channels ’70s Outdoorwear with a Japanese Lens for AW25

    by OVERSTANDARD June 30, 2025
    written by OVERSTANDARD

The North Face Purple Label, Japan’s cult-loved offshoot of the global outerwear giant, has just unveiled its Autumn/Winter 2025 lookbook—a refined continuation of its design language that fuses retro alpine silhouettes with Japanese minimalism, courtesy of creative director Eiichiro Homma.

Much like its peer nanamica, the label leans into a heritage-meets-utility aesthetic, revisiting 1970s outdoorwear with fresh proportions and contemporary materials. Cargo-laden trousers and shorts sit alongside field jackets, mountain parkas, and insulated soutien collar coats, while pieces like Alphadry suit jackets and brushed flannel shirts blur the lines between technical wear and daily essentials.

Designed with both men and women in mind, the silhouettes remain comfortably oversized, engineered to function effortlessly in urban and natural terrains alike. The collection showcases the brand’s ongoing commitment to performance fabrics, including Polartec, Pertex Unlimited, and GORE-TEX, reinforcing its utilitarian edge beneath the surface of subtle tailoring.

For the season, The North Face Purple Label embraces a muted, autumnal palette: think deep browns, maroons, overwashed greys, and inky blacks—tones that speak to colder landscapes and introspective city days.

Exclusive to Japan, the AW25 offering continues to build on the label’s cult appeal by grounding nostalgic references in modern, material-driven storytelling—a quiet triumph in functional fashion with unmistakable style.
