Gentle Monster, Google, and Samsung Make Smart Glasses Look Like Something You Might Actually Wear

by OS Staff July 24, 2026
    written by OS Staff

For years, smart glasses have carried a design problem as much as a technology problem. They promised the future, but often looked too much like the future: awkward, gadget-heavy, slightly embarrassing to imagine on an ordinary street.

Gentle Monster seems to understand that the real breakthrough is not making technology visible. It is making it disappear.

Following their appearance around Google I/O, the South Korean eyewear brand is now pushing its collaboration with Google and Samsung into a more wearable direction, presenting two new silhouettes that hide advanced technology inside frames that still feel recognisably sophisticated. Rather than turning glasses into a device that happens to sit on the face, the project treats the face first, then lets the technology live quietly inside the design.

That distinction matters. Gentle Monster has built its world on eyewear that behaves like fashion, architecture, performance, and object design at once. Its stores feel like installations. Its campaigns often feel like fragments from another reality. But here, the provocation is subtler: can a piece of wearable tech look elegant enough to enter daily life without announcing itself as a gadget?

The answer, at least visually, seems to be yes. The new designs are described as discreet and sophisticated, with conventional profiles and medium proportions that sit naturally on the face. They avoid the usual trap of smart eyewear: looking like a beta version of the future strapped to someone’s head.

Inside, though, the frames are far from ordinary. The glasses include a battery offering up to nine hours of autonomy on a single charge, with the case providing seven additional charges. They also integrate microphones, speakers, and cameras powered by Gemini, placing them among the most advanced commercial smart glasses currently being introduced.
