Sony and Kirkbi (the company that owns LEGO) has invested $2 billion in Epic Games, the company that created, Fortnite, Rocket League, Unreal Tournament and World War Z, to name a few . With the investment, Epic Games will be able to develop and expand further into the Metaverse. The three new partners, Kirkbi, Sony and Epic Games aspire to create a new form of social entertainment by exploring the relationship between physical and digital worlds.

“Epic Games is known for creating playful and creative experiences that contribute to adventures for young and old. Part of our investment goes to support trends that we believe will impact the future that we and our children will live in. This investment will accelerate our commitment to digital play and we are excited to invest in Epic Games, so we can support their continued journey. And in the longer term to develop the metaverse of the future”

Søren Thorup Sørensen, CEO of Kirkbi.

“This investment will accelerate our development of the meta-verse and create a space where players can have fun with friends, brands can build creative and empathetic experiences and communities formed by the users themselves.”

Tim Sweeney, Founder and CEO of Epic Games

LEGO and Epic Games have outlined three points for how they will look after the children in the digital world.

1: Protect children’s right to play by making safety and well-being a priority
2: Support children’s privacy by putting their interest first
3: Provide children and adults with tools that give them control over their digital experience
