Westside Gunn and Saucony Turn the Grid Jazz 9 Into a Griselda Relic

Westside Gunn has always treated rap like curation. His world is built from grimy loops, wrestling references, luxury codes, Buffalo mythology, underground art, opera-house drama, street memory, and the feeling that every object should arrive with a story attached.

Now, that universe lands on a sneaker. For his latest collaboration with Saucony, Gunn has unveiled the Grid Jazz 9, a new silhouette shaped by the mythology around his Flygod Is an Awesome God trilogy. Released on August 28, 2026, the drop also lands on Westside Gunn Day in Buffalo, New York, turning the shoe into something closer to a civic artefact than a simple product launch.

The design carries the visual charge of the Griselda universe. A multi-tone faux fur upper collides with iridescent leather, giving the sneaker a strange, tactile richness that feels part luxury bootleg, part art object, part rap-world talisman. It is not clean minimalism. It is maximal, coded, and slightly unreal.

Then comes the scorpion. Long tied to Gunn’s visual language and the wider Griselda mythology, the symbol turns the sneaker into something recognisably his. It is not just branding. It feels more like a warning sign, a signature, a stamp from a universe where fashion, music, wrestling, painting, and street culture all speak the same language.

What makes the collaboration interesting is that Saucony is having a real cultural moment. Once treated mainly as a heritage running brand, it has become one of 2026’s more unexpectedly hyped sneaker names, helped by collaborations with figures including Jae Tips, Westside Gunn, and Feid.

For Gunn, the partnership makes perfect sense. His taste has always moved between underground and high-end, between Buffalo grit and fashion-week visibility. A Saucony sneaker in his hands does not become performance footwear in the usual sense. It becomes a collectible fragment of his world — something to wear, display, chase, or argue about online.

The release is also deliberately limited, arriving through Saucony’s EQL raffle and Gunn’s Blientele.com. That scarcity matters because Westside Gunn understands the emotional mechanics of drops: desire, access, community, frustration, and the feeling that missing out is part of the story.
