It finally happened. After years of orbiting each other, A$AP Rocky and Chanel have made their relationship official. The rapper, style obsessive, and unofficial ambassador of good taste is now a real ambassador for the French house — a move that feels both inevitable and perfectly timed as Matthieu Blazy prepares to usher Chanel into a new chapter.

Chanel didn’t just drop a press release to announce it. Instead, the house used the countdown to this year’s Métiers d’Art show — set to take place in New York, Rocky’s hometown — to release a short film directed by Michel Gondry. Yes, that Michel Gondry: the mind behind Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and some of the most quietly surreal, emotionally charged visuals of the last two decades.

The film stars Rocky and Margaret Qualley, a pairing that feels hyper-contemporary without trying too hard. It’s a neat encapsulation of the aesthetic Blazy seems to be leaning toward: playful, cinematic, slightly dreamlike, and anchored by people who naturally live at the intersection of culture, fashion, and performance.

The big reveal sets the stage for tomorrow, December 2, when Chanel will debut its latest Métiers d’Art collection both in New York and online.
