Footwear doesn’t usually start with what’s under your feet — but that’s exactly where ASICS and HAL STUDIOS are looking as they open a new chapter in their collaboration. Heading into 2026, the duo introduce the first release from their newly launched Signature Series, a project that treats sneakers less as seasonal products and more as architectural studies shaped by place.
This time, the city in focus is New York, but not the postcard version. There are no skylines or landmarks here. Instead, the design draws from the elements that quietly hold the city together: scaffolding that never comes down, steel beams, concrete worn smooth by decades of footsteps, and the metal grates that carry heat, weight, and history beneath the streets. It’s an approach rooted in observation rather than nostalgia — a portrait of the city told through its supporting structures.
Those references translate into a shoe defined by restraint and material honesty. The model arrives in two colourways, built around muted greys and grounded earth tones, each subtly linked to different neighbourhoods and the social rhythms that shaped them. Rather than clean finishes, the surfaces lean into aged textures and industrial tactility, echoing the way urban materials evolve through use rather than design intent.
The palette is deliberately functional, but never cold. There’s a quiet sophistication in the balance between utility and refinement — a language both brands have been developing together over multiple seasons. HAL STUDIOS’ sensitivity to context meets ASICS’ performance heritage, resulting in a sneaker that feels informed by the city without mimicking it directly.
More than a standalone release, the Signature Series signals a longer-term vision: footwear as a way of reading cities, interpreting their unseen systems and translating them into wearable form. It’s less about trend forecasting and more about capturing atmosphere — the kind you only notice when you slow down and look closely.
The first ASICS x HAL STUDIOS Signature Series model is expected to land in stores next month.
