Bettina Pittaluga Shoots Carhartt WIP SS25 Collection

    by OVERSTANDARD March 24, 2025
    written by OVERSTANDARD

Carhartt WIP, the contemporary offshoot of the iconic workwear brand, is once again turning heads with its latest collection designed for the warmer months of the year. This time, the brand takes its inspiration from the vibrant, sun-soaked streets of Marseille, France, a city renowned for its striking contrasts—where rugged coastlines meet urban energy, and tradition intertwines with modernity. This setting serves as the perfect backdrop for unveiling a lineup that leans heavily into outdoor-ready aesthetics while staying true to Carhartt’s utilitarian roots.

The collection, captured through the lens of Franco-Uruguayan photographer Bettina Pittaluga, showcases a thoughtful blend of textures, materials, and functionality. Pittaluga’s photography highlights the tactile richness of the pieces, emphasizing natural fabrics like cotton and hemp, which feature prominently in items such as knitted polo shirts—ideal for breathable, laid-back summer style. The lineup also includes long shirts paired with loose, relaxed-fit pants, offering a versatile silhouette that balances comfort and rugged appeal.

For those seeking more technical designs, Carhartt WIP introduces pieces crafted from polyester poplin, a lightweight yet durable fabric suited for active outdoor wear. A standout evolution in the collection is the reinterpretation of the classic hickory stripe, a nod to the brand’s workwear heritage. This pattern appears in two women’s pieces: the Hendry Coat, a structured yet stylish outer layer, and the Hendry Tote, a practical accessory that merges fashion with utility.

The collection also pays homage to Carhartt’s archival inspirations, particularly through garments made from undyed raw wool. These pieces evoke the sturdy uniforms of railway workers, complete with authentic details like patches and design elements lifted straight from the brand’s historical playbook. This fusion of past and present underscores Carhartt WIP’s ability to evolve while honoring its legacy.

In Marseille, a city that mirrors the collection’s duality—earthy yet innovative, timeless yet fresh—Carhartt WIP proves it’s not just dressing us for the season but telling a story of craftsmanship, contrast, and connection to the outdoors. Pittaluga’s imagery brings this narrative to life, making the collection as much a visual journey as it is a wearable one.
