Before taking up the position of Creative Director at Gucci.
‘Exactitudes’ marks the culmination of an era – a decade-defining finale to Demna’s tenure at Balenciaga. Far from a sentimental goodbye, this collection serves as a living archive, a symbolic and physical synthesis of the themes, provocations, and silhouettes that have defined Demna’s transformative leadership since his arrival at the Maison in 2015.
The title references the seminal photographic series “Exactitudes” by Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek – a project that documents the tension between uniformity and individuality. Real people, in real environments, grouped by near-identical outfits yet distinct in presence. Demna appropriates this concept and projects it onto fashion’s global stage, turning the runway into a study in social archetypes, stylistic repetition, and the anthropology of dress.
Each silhouette, each gesture, and each fabrication is a carefully calculated nod to Demna’s core thesis: the ongoing collapse of the boundaries between high fashion and streetwear, the redefinition of luxury, and the politics embedded in our clothes. “What do our clothes say about us?” becomes the collection’s central provocation—a philosophical echo that underlines the designer’s enduring commitment to critical commentary through form and style.
In its totality, ‘Exactitudes’ is not just a show—it’s a manifesto, a mirror, and a final signature on one of fashion’s most provocative and intellectually charged chapters.
