Gucci Art Space and Christie’s 3.0 collaborate to unveil a groundbreaking digital auction that delves into the convergence of fashion, art, and technology, exploring the visionary narrative of Gucci’s 102-year legacy.
Following the success of Future Frequencies: Explorations in Generative Art and Fashion, Christie’s and Gucci are excited to introduce the second phase of their exploration into the interconnected realms of fashion, art, and technology. This collaborative auction, titled Parallel Universes: from Future Frequencies to Gucci Cosmos, seeks to experiment with and champion avant-garde thinking, nurturing revolutionary concepts focused on future realities. Drawing inspiration from Gucci Cosmos, an inventive exhibition showcasing the House’s iconic designs curated by Maria Luisa Frisa and designed by Es Devlin, this digital auction sets the stage for a transformative journey.
Open for bidding until November 28, 2023, via Gucci Art Space, an online exhibition platform launched in July 2023 to promote and empower artists, the auction transcends physical boundaries. Providing a digital haven for creativity, it showcases the works of nine leading artists specializing in generative systems: Alexis Andre, Alexis Christodoulou, Amy Goodchild, Harvey Rayner, Jacqui Kenny, Jo Ann, Melissa Wiederrecht, Sasha Stiles, and Thomas Lin Pedersen.
These artists are invited to unleash the full potential of generative systems, offering a fresh perspective on revolutionizing fashion and fostering new levels of expression, serving as true gateways to the future. Their challenge is to explore themes from the Gucci archive, echoing the physical exhibition’s rooms, and contemplate how classics and the House’s diverse aesthetic stages have not only mirrored their respective eras but also shaped them. Leveraging generative systems, each artist delves into themes or myths that have defined Gucci’s legacy – from Guccio Gucci’s time as a bellboy at the Savoy Hotel in 1897 to the birth of iconic symbols like the Horsebit, the Flora motif, or the Rosso Ancora. Their aim is to propel these themes into uncharted territories, fostering meaningful dialogues between different eras and ever-evolving aesthetics, bridging the gap between the past and the future.
