In a decisive and symbolic move, Heron Preston has officially reacquired full rights to his eponymous label, breaking away from New Guards Group (NGG) and reclaiming full creative and operational control. The announcement marks a pivotal turning point not just for Preston, but for a broader wave of designers reasserting ownership in an era of corporate fashion restructuring.
Originally launched under NGG in 2017, the Heron Preston brand quickly became a staple of luxury streetwear, blending sustainability, utilitarian aesthetics, and cultural commentary. But after NGG’s acquisition by Farfetch in 2019, and again by Coupang in 2023, the parent company faced increasing instability—culminating in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in Italy in late 2024.
Preston now joins fellow NGG alumni like AMBUSH, Palm Angels, and Alanui in an exodus that reflects deeper shifts within the street-luxury ecosystem. Speaking to The Business of Fashion, Preston shared: “I have been through hell to protect what I have built. I fought for my name, my work and my vision. Now I am back with more purpose than ever.”
Now operating out of Brooklyn, Preston is laying the groundwork for his brand’s next era—free from investors, boards, or external management. His last corporate engagement, a menswear advisory role with H&M in 2023, has officially concluded. A new collection is set to debut in October, signaling his return to independent fashion on his own terms.
It’s a powerful reminder: ownership is the ultimate form of creative freedom.
