Five years on, ‘Virgil Abloh: The Codes’ lands at The Shed to dissect the multidisciplinary blueprint, complete with unreleased prototypes, a replica of his Paris studio, and open-source design labs.
Few creative minds have reshaped the intersection of high fashion, streetwear, and contemporary culture quite like Virgil Abloh. As the global cultural landscape continues to feel the seismic ripples of his legacy, Virgil Abloh Archive™ and Nike are teaming up to bring the definitive retrospective—Virgil Abloh: The Codes—to New York City. Opening on December 10 at The Shed, the blockbuster exhibition will assemble nearly 1,000 archival pieces to map out his monumental impact across fashion, architecture, design, and music.
Curated by Chloe Sultan and Mahfuz Sultan, the month-long experience goes far beyond a conventional fashion retrospective. Visitors will navigate finished products, rare prototypes, original sketches, and personal documents, alongside a faithful recreation of Abloh’s legendary Paris studio and an interactive laboratory dedicated to his open-source philosophy of “The Codes.”
Running through January 18, 2027, the New York engagement builds on previous chapters in Miami and Paris, and will feature an immersive programming schedule of live performances, public workshops, and panel conversations. Tickets go on sale October 23, cementing the exhibition as the definitive cultural pilgrimage of the winter season.
