Can a single fashion collection completely transform depending entirely on who is looking at it? Bottega Veneta seems to think so.
For its Winter campaign, the storied Italian house has completely dismantled the concept of a traditional, singular advertising imagery. Guided by a quote from Victorian art critic John Ruskin—“For every distance from the eye there is a peculiar kind of beauty”—the label invited eight distinct photographers to capture the collection over an eight-day period in February, resulting in the newly published Zine 002.
Enlisting an eclectic roster of image-makers including Chris Rhodes, Cristina Stohle, James Ari King, Kira Bunse, Nicole Maria Winkler, Piotr Niepsuj, Rosie Harriet Ellis, and Sam Penn, the collaborative project operates across different scales of intimacy and proximity.
Rather than delivering a rigid, hyper-controlled narrative, the photographs fluidly shift between raw back-stage intimacyand performative, sculptural motion. Up close, the lens fixates on the tactile craftsmanship, raw textures, and intricate details of the garments. Step back, and the clothes transform again, taking on striking structural volumes as they move through space.
