Salvatore Garau Sells Invisible Sculpture for $18,000

by OVERSTANDARD

Italian artist Salvatore Garau’s Lo Sono” or “I Am” recently sold for more than $18,000. There’s only one catch. You can’t see it. The immaterial sculpture was put on sale last month and was expected to fetch between $6,000 and $9,000, but the hype surrounding the invisible sculpture pushed the final sale to $18,300.

When describing his piece, Garau compared “Lo Sono” to a vacuum, stating, “The vacuum is nothing more than a space full of energy, and even if we empty it and there is nothing left, according to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, that nothing has a weight. Therefore, it has energy that is condensed and transformed into particles, that is, into us.”

The invisible piece was purchased by an anonymous buyer, who will receive a certificate of authenticity and instructions on how to display the work.
