MSCHF return with another audacious project: “King Solomon’s Baby,” a participatory sculpture set to debut at Pioneer Works on July 10.
Drawing from the biblical parable of King Solomon, MSCHF presents a high-stakes premise: the sculpture will cost $100,000 USD if purchased by one buyer—but if more buyers join in, it will be sliced and distributed, with the price and physical share adjusted accordingly. Think financial trust fall, but with a buzzsaw.
This isn’t MSCHF’s first foray into testing the absurdity of art market value—previous antics include the infamous ATM Leaderboard at Art Basel and dismembering a Damien Hirst canvas into dots. King Solomon’s Baby follows suit, turning art collecting into a live performance and social experiment.
Buy-ins go live at 2PM EST on July 10 at kingsolomonsbaby.com. The first slice takes place that evening at 8:30PMduring a public reception, with the dismemberment continuing over the next two days. Once carved, the pieces remain on display through Pioneer Works’ Second Sunday.
