Zegna Hands the Reins to a New Generation

A quiet but seismic shift is unfolding inside the Zegna universe. The Italian luxury group, one of the last great family-rooted houses still shaping global menswear, is preparing for a leadership transition that will redefine how the brand thinks, operates, and imagines its future.

After decades steering the company, Gildo Zegna is stepping out of the CEO role and into a newly focused position as Executive Chairman. Instead of running the day-to-day business, he’ll become the guardian of the brand’s cultural backbone: textiles, heritage, and the external relationships that have always been central to Zegna’s identity.

The operational engine, meanwhile, is being handed to a new cast. Gianluca Tagliabue, currently CFO and COO, is set to become Group CEO, overseeing every brand in the Zegna portfolio and directing the group’s financial and strategic direction. Beside him, Gian Franco Santhià will step in as Group CFO, tightening the structure around expansion, performance, and internal governance.

But the shift doesn’t stop at the top. In a move that pushes the house fully into its fourth generation, Edoardo Zegna and Angelo Zegna will become Co-CEOs of the Zegna brand, effectively taking over responsibilities Gildo held for years. Edoardo, who has been shaping the company’s brand image, digital strategy, and sustainability work, will guide the narrative and creative direction. Angelo, currently leading client strategy and EMEA operations, will handle product, merchandising, and commercial growth.

The restructuring creates a sharper division between heritage and execution: one branch safeguarding the past and its craft traditions, the other charged with navigating a luxury sector that’s faster, more global, and more diversified than ever, especially across the group’s three pillars, ZegnaThom Browne, and Tom Ford.

What emerges is a house preparing for its next century: still family-led, still rooted in Italian craftsmanship, but now powered by a leadership structure built for scale, speed, and a radically changing luxury landscape.
