Denis Villeneuve has seriously broken through to the international market in recent years, having created, among other things, the iconic drug-thriller Sicario as well as the acclaimed sequel to Blade Runner.
He has a fondness for sci-fi, and after a solid success with Arrival, he’s now thrown himself over Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel, Dune.
The story follows a young man named Atreides who leaves his home to visit the mining planet Arrakis, where his royal family overlooks a ‘spice’ extraction, a form of resource that is very important to the galaxy.
The royal family clash with other families around the galaxy as well as the planet’s “free” men.
The concept was previously filmed in 1984 by David Lynch.
The lead role is played by Timothée Chalamet, while Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista and Stellan Skarsgård join the cast.
