On the 24th of February, Marni introduced its latest ensemble for the Fall / Winter 2024 season in a unique subterranean space beneath Milan’s Stazione Centrale.
As models graced the catwalk, oversized lapels adorned coats, snug-necked sweaters with prominent shoulder pads made a statement, while leopard prints, playful doodles, and mesmerizing kaleidoscopic patterns embellished various dresses, coats, and jackets, transitioning seamlessly from deep blacks to vibrant pinks and oranges. ‘In this realm, it’s solely us. Delight resides in that connection,’ conveyed the caption accompanying Marni’s collection presentation on its Instagram platform.
The new collection started with a very noticeable peculiarity: the complete lack of references or images beyond a quote from Virginia Woolf that reads: ‘If by chance you enter a paper cave, do not wear clothes.’ Other than that, Francesco Risso – creative director of Marni – covered the walls of the brand’s studio to force himself and the design team to conceive a new identity without drawing inspiration or basing it on anything.
